After Estonia regained its independence, I spent 14 years building up the Estonian rescue service. Having worked as the security adviser to the Prime Minister for a year, I was elected to the Riigikogu where I served nearly eight years as the Chairman of the National Defence Committee, dedicating myself to developing Estonia's security policy and comprehensive national defence. Thereafter I participated in the work of the Government of the Republic as the Minister of the Environment, and in 2015 I continued to engage in environmental issues also in the 13th Riigikogu.

I am continuing my work in the Riigikogu after a two-year pause, because I wish to contribute to the shaping of the future of our country with my knowledge and experience. I wish Estonia to develop into a country where life is good for us, as well as for the generations that come after us.
