Until Friday, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson will participate in the joint visit of the Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Berlin, Germany.
Mihkelson said that the visit would focus on the unity of the European Union, recent foreign policy developments, significance of transatlantic relations and promotion of parliamentary cooperation.
“We will dedicate a large part of the meetings to current topics, developments in Belarus and Ukraine, and the common foreign and security policy of the European Union,” Mihkelson noted. He added that, during the visit, the Chairs of Foreign Affairs Committees would also meet with the representatives of several political parties to get an overview of the elections of the Bundestag held in autumn.
Today, the Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Baltic parliaments will have meetings with Thomas Bagger, Director-General for Foreign Affairs at the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee Norbert Röttgen and Chairman of the Bundestag Defence Committee Wolfgang Hellmich.
On Thursday and Friday, the visit will continue with meetings with the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Chancellery, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Centre for Liberal Modernity (Zentrum Liberale Moderne). It is also planned to meet the representative of the people of Belarus Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
