Today and tomorrow, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) is on a working visit in Berlin. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the challenges faced by Europe, and wider international issues.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson thinks that Germany has a key role in Europe, and its opinions and positions have a great weight in shaping the future of Europe.

“The bilateral relations between Estonia and Germany, and also their relations in the European Union and NATO have been constant and very strong throughout the years,” Mihkelson said. “At the meetings with our colleagues, we would like to discuss what the position of Europe at the international level should be in the future, and how to achieve that through cooperation and unity.”

Besides meeting with Chairman of the Bundestag’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Norbert Röttgen and his colleagues, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu will have meetings with Vice President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Kubicki and Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Bundestag Wolfgang Hellmich. There will also be meetings at the Chancellery of the Federal Chancellor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee, which, besides the Chairman of the Committee, includes members of the Committee Mart Nutt, Barbi Pilvre and Henn Põlluaas, will also visit the Free University of Berlin and various think tanks.
